  1. 1. Spectromorphological Reductions : Exploring and developing approaches for sound-based notation of live electronics

    University essay from Luleå tekniska universitet/Musik, medier och teater

    Author : Hans Lennart Jonsäll; [2023]
    Keywords : live electronics; electronic music; electroacoustic music; notation; spectromorphology; typo-morphology; Sound Notation; digital musical instruments.;

    Abstract : In this master’s thesis, a sound-based notation system is explored and developed in the composition and performance of a musical work for live electronics. My approach builds on existing systems for electroacoustic music analysis, most notably Dennis Smalley’s (1997) theory of spectromorphology and the symbolic language of Lasse Thoresen & Andreas Hedman (2007) based on Pierre Schaeffer’s typo-morphology, as well as Mattias Sköld’s (2023) adaptation of this system for composition and transcription (Sound Notation). 2. 2. Expressive Automatic Music Transcription : Using hard onset detection to transcribe legato slurs for violin

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för elektroteknik och datavetenskap (EECS)

    Author : Simon Falk; [2022]
    Keywords : Automatic Music Transcription; Signal Processing; Convolutional Neural Networks; Onset Detection; Music Information Retrieval; Automatisk musiktranskription; Signalbearbetning; Faltningsnätverk; Ansatsdetektion; Informationssökning av musik;

    Abstract : Automatic Music Transcriptions systems such as ScoreCloud aims to convert audio signals to sheet music. The information contained in sheet music can be divided into increasingly descriptive layers, where most research on Automatic Music Transcription is restricted on note-level transcription and disregard expressive markings such as legato slurs. Abstract : The research field of automatic music transcription has vastly grown during the 21st century, where the goal is to transcribe a polyphonic music signal into annotated sheet music. Within this field, the subproblem of fundamental frequency estimation in a piece of music is a difficult problem, e.g. READ MORE

  5. 5. Onset detection in polyphonic music

    University essay from KTH/Tal, musik och hörsel, TMH

    Author : Nils Efraimsson; [2017]
    Keywords : Acoustics; onset detection; Musikakustik; ansatsdetektion;

    Abstract : In music analysis, the beginning of events in a music signal (i.e. sound onset detection) is important for such tasks as sound segmentation, beat recognition and automatic music transcription. The aim of the present work was to make an algorithm for sound onset detection with better performance than other state-of-the-art1 algorithms. READ MORE
