  1. 1. Genetic characterization of a Ragdoll family affected by hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Clinical Sciences

    Author : Emma Nääs; [2023]
    Keywords : Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy; Ragdoll; Genetics; Myosin binding protein C3; Myosin heavy chain 7; Cardiac troponin T; Alstrom syndrome protein 1;

    Abstract : Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a common cardiac disease among felines, resulting in myocardial hypertrophy and subsequent decreased cardiac function. Consequently, cats may develop congestive heart failure and/or arterial thromboembolism. The disease is inherited and various mutations in sarcomeric genes have been associated with feline HCM. 2. 2. Associations of COVID-19 diagnosis with levels of selected clinical markers among elderly individuals: a hospital-based, cross-sectional study

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för folkhälso- och vårdvetenskap

    Author : Samiha Noor; [2023]
    Keywords : COVID-19 among older individuals; Sweden; cardiac troponin T; C-reactive protein D-dimer; NT-proBNP; clinical markers;

    Abstract : Background Coronavirus Disease-2019 (COVID-19) affected elderly individuals disproportionately in terms of hospitalization and adverse outcome. Objective This cross-sectional study examined the associations of COVID-19 diagnosis (COVID-negative versus COVID-positive) with levels of four clinical markers – cardiac troponin T (cTnT), high-sensitive C-reactive protein (hsCRP), D-dimer and b-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) – along with potential differences in associations by sex in a hospital-based sample of elderly individuals. 3. 3. The value of cardiac MRI texture analysis in patients with clinically suspected myocarditis

    University essay from

    Author : Evin Ina Papalini; [2021-05-10]
    Keywords : Medical physics; Myocarditis; Cardiac magnetic resonance; Texture analysis;

    Abstract : Purpose: The aim of this proof-of-concept study was to assess the diagnostic value of texture analysis (TA) based on conventional balanced steady-state-free precession (bSSFP), late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) and T2-weighted cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMRI) in patients with clinically suspected myocarditis. Method: A retrospective cohort study was performed based on 30 patients who underwent a comprehensive CMRI due to clinically suspected myocarditis between 2013 and 2018 at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital: 10 patients with clinical signs and positive myocardial biomarkers (Troponin T, indicating myocardial injury) as well as positive CMRI findings according to Lake Louise Criteria (LLC; group 1), 10 patients with clinical signs and positive myocardial biomarkers but negative CMRI findings according to LLC (group 2), and 10 patients with clinical signs but both negative myocardial biomarkers as well as CMRI findings according to LLC (control group). 4. 4. Pathological Mechanisms of Sarcomere Mutations in the Disease Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy : A Review

    University essay from Linköpings universitet/Institutionen för fysik, kemi och biologi

    Author : Lova Bohman; [2021]
    Keywords : Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy; Mutations; Proteins; Sarcomere; Sudden Cardiac Death;

    Abstract : Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is a heart disease that is characterized by an enlarged heart muscle. Mutations to sarcomere proteins in the muscle fibers give rise to the disease, and this review aims to compile the mechanisms by which the mutations cause the disease phenotype. READ MORE
