    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Forest Ecology and Management

    Author : Lina Arnesson Ceder; [2019]
    Keywords : skogshistoria; barktäkter; samer; subfossil; tall; tjärn; Forest history; bark peel; sami; subfossil; pine tree; pond;

    Abstract : I tusentals år har samer levt i norra Fennoskandia och brukat skogen för att värma upp kåtor och låta renar beta av laven som växer på träden och marken. Man har även använt tallens, (Pinus sylvestris L), innerbark som kolhydratkälla och förvaring. Dessa så kallade barktäkter lämnar karakteristiska spår i träden. READ MORE

  2. 2. The Importance of Curation: a Case-Study of the Subfossil Lemur Collection in the Museum of Evolution, Uppsala University

  3. 3. Is it possible to reconstruct local pre-sence of pine on bogs during the Ho-locene based on pollen data? : a study based on surface and stratigraphical samples from three bogs in southern Sweden

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Author : Isabelle Timms Eliasson; [2014]
    Keywords : southern Sweden; vegetation cover; bog; Pinus; pollen; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : Horizons rich in subfossil stumps and roots of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) are frequently found in stratigraphies of northern European peatlands, providing clear evidence of Holocene periods with favourable conditions for bog-pine growth. The pines could only grow when bog-surface wetness was sufficiently low, and the presence of their remains is therefore a good indicator of past climatic conditions, mainly precipitation. READ MORE

  4. 4. Peat stratigraphical study of hydrological conditions at Stass Mosse, southern Sweden, and the relation to Holocene bog-pine growth

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Author : Linda Adamsson; [2013]
    Keywords : tall; mosse; klimatförändringar; palaeoecology; macrofossil analysis; pines; climate change; bog; makrofossilanalys; paleoekologi; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : Sammanfattning: Torvhorisonter med stora mängder subfossila stubbar och rötter av tall (Pinus sylvestris) förekommer ofta i nordeuropeiska torvmossar. De visar att mossarna varit tallbevuxna under delar av Holocen. READ MORE

    Abstract : Glacial and marine geomorphological features have been studied and mapped on the south coast of Gilsfjördur West-Iceland. In this region the main Icelandic ice-sheet is supposed to have met with a separate Vestfirdir ice-cap. Fossiliferous sediments in the area are assumed to be of Late Weichselian age. READ MORE
