  1. 1. Gravitational Collapse of a Massless Scalar Field in a Theory of Minimally Modified Gravity

    University essay from KTH/Fysik

    Author : Atabak Fathe Jalali; [2024]
    Keywords : Theoretical physics; astrophysics; modified gravity; minimally modified gravity; gravitational collapse; VCDM; scalar collapse; apparent horizon; numerical relativity; Teoretisk fysik; astrofysik; modifierad gravitation; minimalt modifierad gravitation; gravitationskollaps; VCDM; skalär kollaps; uppenbar horisont; numerisk relativitet;

    Abstract : This thesis explores the spherically symmetric gravitational collapse of a massless scalar field in a minimally modified gravity theory denoted VCDM (V replaces $\Lambda$ in the $\Lambda$CDM abbreviation), a class of theories propagating the same degrees of freedom as general relativity at the expense of broken 4D diffeomorphism invariance. Numerical evolution of the equations of motion reveals that for small initial scalar profile amplitudes, no black hole forms from the collapse. READ MORE

  2. 2. IMPLICATION FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF GOTHENBURG TO ALIGN WITH THE GOVERNMENT’S TARGET REGARDING CLIMATE NEUTRALITY BY 2045 - Scenarios and Consequences

    University essay from Göteborgs universitet / Institutionen för biologi och miljövetenskap

    Author : Nafiseh Kazemi Ashtiani; [2023-06-21]
    Keywords : Climate Neutrality; GHG emissions; higher education institutions HEIs ; Net Zero emission; carbon footprint; carbon capture and storage CCS ;

    Abstract : It is widely acknowledged that one of the most significant global challenges of the 21 st century is climate change. In its Fifth Assessment Report (2014), the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) described the present extent of the problem and the hazards involved, citing greenhouse gas emissions from human activities as the primary contributor to global warming since the mid-20th century. 3. 3. Method Development & Analysis of Seals using FEM

    University essay from KTH/Maskinkonstruktion

    Author : Lovisa Svanborg Östlin; [2023]
    Keywords : FEM; guidelines; hyperelastic materials; hyperelastic material models; method development; seals; FEM; riktlinjer; hyperelastiska material; hyperelastiska materialmodeller; metodutveckling; tätningar;

    Abstract : Hyperelasticity is a significant property of rubber, taken advantage of in engineering applications. A common application is the use of seals to prevent fluid transfer (liquid or gas) between solid regions. Volvo CE is often depending on external supplier when developing seals. READ MORE

  4. 4. Dog owner knowledge and attitudes towards oral vaccination : a field study on canine rabies in Lao PDR

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Clinical Sciences

    Author : Elsa Holmström; [2023]
    Keywords : canines; zoonoses; vaccine prevention; vaccine preferences;

    Abstract : Rabies is a fatal viral disease causing around 59,000 deaths each year worldwide. Out of all deaths, 95% occur in Africa and Asia. In Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) rabies is endemic with dogs being the main virus reservoir. All mammals can be infected by the rabies virus but up to 99% of human rabies cases are transmitted by dogs. READ MORE

  5. 5. The role and use of 3D-simulations in fashion design

    University essay from Stockholms universitet/Institutionen för data- och systemvetenskap

    Author : Khalil Kabakibi; Linda Eriksson; [2023]
    Keywords : 3D technology; fashion; environment; digital design; zero-waste fashion design; 2D 3D design; sustainability;

    Abstract : The rapid technological advancement and the increased awareness about the environment have introduced new digital tools to facilitate the design process in the fashion industry in which 3D technology was incorporated. Very few research has addressed the experiences of fashion designers when using 3D tools in their design process. READ MORE
