Abstract: Lifting hooks are essential for safer transportation of heavy components, subsiding the needs for unhealthy manual labour. Meanwhile, it is widely apparent for companies to prefer the use of a single lifting hook design, for the purpose of threading onto multiple other receiving components. As such, this report concerns the re-design of a lifting hook that is expected to thread and transport two different components, with its original cross section initially being unwieldy for both components. This underlines the evident need to generate a more flexible design, bolstering a material that is able to persevere expectations associated with everyday usage of the hook in the workplace. By implementing methods such as Brainstorming, Topology Optimization and Finite Element Analysis, the project has concluded with a newly suggested design. Conclusively, this design has also been shaped by numerous factors such as costs, safety and sustainability. It personifies a steel lifting hook that not only meets all requirements expressed but also has an added material reduction of circa 10% compared to the original.
