  1. 1. Transverse Momentum Spectra in pp collisions (\sqrt{s}\) = 7 TeV and \(\sqrt{s}\) = 13 TeV in ALICE

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Partikel- och kärnfysik

    Author : Andreas Stokkeland; [2023]
    Keywords : Multiplicity; Multiplicity classes; Soft interactions; Quark Gluon Plasma; QGP; transverse momentum; p_T; Chi-squared; fits; fit functions; Levy; Lévy; Exponential; BGBW; Boltzmann-Gibbs blast-wave; Fermi-Dirac; Bose-Einstein; Boltzmann; pion; kaon; proton; transverse momentum spectra; p_T spectra; surface velocity; Minimum Bias; MB; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : In this project particle production as a function of transverse momentum (\(p_{\rm T}\)) in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy (\(\sqrt{s}\)) of 7 TeV and 13 TeV has been studied. The transverse momentum is interesting to study since it reflects momentum created in the collision (before the collision, all momentum is in the beam - going in a longitudinal direction) and therefore gives information on the collision dynamics. 2. 2. Determining backgrounds with misidentified leptons in the ATLAS Higgs boson analysis

    University essay from KTH/Fysik

    Author : Leo Qiyuan Hu; [2023]
    Keywords : Particle Physics; ATLAS detector; Fake Factor method; Higgs boson; lepton misreconstruction; misidentified events; Partikelfysik; ATLAS detektorn; Fake Factor-metoden; Higgs boson; lepton felrekonstruktion; felidentifierade händelser;

    Abstract : This thesis presents an analysis of misidentified leptons in the Higgs boson decaychannel H → W W ∗ → lνlν. Misidentified leptons, resulting from jets misidentifiedas leptons, mimic the signal of a Higgs boson decay, resulting in a backgroundcontribution to the signal. READ MORE

  3. 3. Forward-Backward Multiplicity Correlations for Proton-Proton Collisions with ALICE at LHC-CERN

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Partikel- och kärnfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : August Koppers; [2022]
    Keywords : ALICE; Particle physics; CERN; LHC; QCD; pp collisions; Lund string model; Two particle correlation; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : This thesis presents the study of two-particle pseudorapidity correlations in pp-collisions at √s = 13 TeV using the ALICE detector at LHC, CERN. The correlation function was calculated as a function of multiplicity and was repeated for several multiplicity classes and different charge combinations in the forward-backward and central regions of the detector, respectively. 4. 4. Studies of Dark Showers for Present and Future Colliders

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Partikel- och kärnfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Nicoline Krogh Hemme; [2022]
    Keywords : high-energy particle physics; dark matter; collider physics; beyond the standard model; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : In this work we explore a strongly-interacting dark sector with a Z’ portal to the Standard Model. We focus on the dark shower phenomenology and their semi-visible jet signatures with a strong emphasis on first principles of the theory. READ MORE

  5. 5. Optimization of event selection and fake background estimation in a search for heavy scalars in dilepton final states with the ATLAS detector

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Partikel- och kärnfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Marius Burman Ingeberg; [2021]
    Keywords : Physics; Particle physics; ATLAS; Standard Model; CERN; LHC; Higgs boson; Exotic Higgs Boson; Dilepton final states; Optimization; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : The discovery of the Higgs boson h in 2012 further confirmed the remarkable accuracy of the Standard Model (SM). Despite this, some compelling excesses in multi-lepton final states were recorded in both major runs of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). READ MORE
