  1. 1. Branching Out with Mixtures: Phylogenetic Inference That’s Not Afraid of a Little Uncertainty

    University essay from KTH/Matematisk statistik

    Author : Ricky Molén; [2023]
    Keywords : Phylogeny; Bayesian analysis; Markov chain Monte Carlo; Variational inference; Mixture of proposal distributions; Fylogeni; Bayesiansk analys; Markov Chain Monte Carlo; Variationsinferens; Mixturer av förslagsfördelningar;

    Abstract : Phylogeny, the study of evolutionary relationships among species and other taxa, plays a crucial role in understanding the history of life. Bayesian analysis using Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) is a widely used approach for inferring phylogenetic trees, but it suffers from slow convergence in higher dimensions and is slow to converge. 2. 2. Why Coffee Machine Chats and Laundry Time Matter: Investigating Opportunities and Challenges of Different Work Arrangements

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Företagsekonomiska institutionen

    Author : Natalia Olender; Larissa Sophie Römer; [2023]
    Keywords : Opportunities; Challenges; Work-life Interdependency; Work Arrangements; Physical In-office Work; Hybrid Work; Remote Work; Employees; Employers; Business and Economics;

    Abstract : The subject of this thesis is based on a qualitative research study to examine the opportunities and challenges of the three work arrangements, physical in-office work, hybrid work, and remote work, as perceived by employees. Additionally, the perceived impact of those work arrangements on work-life interdependency is explored. READ MORE

  3. 3. Multiple-Emitter Super-resolution Imaging using the Alternating Descent Conditional Gradient Method

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Beräkningsbiologi och biologisk fysik - Genomgår omorganisation; Lunds universitet/Institutionen för astronomi och teoretisk fysik - Genomgår omorganisation

    Author : Dolev Illouz; [2023]
    Keywords : super-resolution; alternating descent conditional gradient method; ADCG; multiple-emitter localization; nanoscale imaging; single molecule tracking; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : This thesis examines the state-of-the-art 2D super-resolution technique alternating descent conditional gradient (ADCG) method's ability to accurately localize fluorophores in diffraction-limited single molecule images (SMI) and analyze the impact of pre-processing and post-processing modules on ADCG's fluorophore localization. A synthetic dataset obtained from the 2013 Grand Challenge localization microscopy and a temporally linked dataset obtained from an unpublished set of Optical DNA mapping experiments performed by Jonathan Jeffet at the NanoBioPhotonix Lab at Tel-Aviv University were initially segmented to extract their noise parameters. 4. 4. Evaluation of five hardwood species from Zambia to produce fuel pellets for cooking purposes : Study with a single pellet press including pellet production, post production testing and X-ray examinations

    University essay from Karlstads universitet/Avdelningen för energi-, miljö- och byggteknik

    Author : Annika Silvennoinen; [2023]
    Keywords : Pelletizing; Pellet Production; Wood Species; X-Ray examinations; Pelletisering; Pelletstillverkning; Träslag; Röntgenundersökningar;

    Abstract : 81% of the population in sub-Saharan Africa relies on charcoal and firewood to cover their energy needs for cooking. In Africa charcoal is usually produced by burning tree in a traditional kilns and then the food is cooked with a carbon-fired stoves indoors. READ MORE

  5. 5. A Life Cycle Assessment on the Biodiversity impact of SDG equity funds

    University essay from Umeå universitet/Företagsekonomi

    Author : Nils Hendriks; [2023]
    Keywords : ESG; SDG; Sustainable Development Goals; LCA; Life Cycle Assessment; annual species loss; biodiversity; equity funds;

    Abstract : Sustainability, a multidimensional concept, consist of various environmental, social, and economic factors. Its fundamental principle is to fulfill the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. READ MORE
