  1. 16. Use of the JET pedestal database to assess the role of ion temperature and plasma rotation on the discrepancy between ideal peeling-ballooning model and experimental data

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för elektroteknik och datavetenskap (EECS)

    Author : Max Eichenberger; [2022]
    Keywords : Nuclear fusion; Joint European Torus JET ; H-mode; pedestal; Edge-localized-modes ELMs ; Peeling-Ballooning; relative shift; ion temperature; plasma rotation; Kärnfusion; JET Joint European Torus ; H-läge; piedestal; ELM Edge LocalizedModes ; peeling-ballooning; relativ förskjutning; jontemperatur; plasmarotation;

    Abstract : Next-generation and present fusion devices such as the Joint European Torus (JET) aim for plasma operations in H-mode, a plasma regime with high confinement and low loss of energy and fuel that results from a barrier for heat and particle transport at the plasma edge, the pedestal. Due to steep gradients of the density, temperature and pressure profiles, the pedestal experiences instabilities called Edge-localized-modes (ELMs) which lead to large fluxes of heat and particles that might damage machine components. 2. 17. Nuclear Structure near the Proton Drip-line: A Search for Excited States in 62Ge

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Kärnfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Dalia Farghaly; [2022]
    Keywords : nuclear physics; nuclear structure; proton drip-line; excited states; germanium; fusion-evaporation reaction; experimental nuclear physics; gamma sphere; gamma spectroscopy; HPGe detectors; data analysis; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : An experiment to study mirror symmetry in the mass A = 60 region was performed at the Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) in 2020. The fusion-evaporation reaction 40Ca + 24Mg → 64Ge* at a beam energy of 106 MeV was used to populate excited states in 62Ge. READ MORE

  3. 18. Quantum Computing in Nuclear Physics

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Matematisk fysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Luca Bernecker; [2022]
    Keywords : quantum computing; nuclear physics; qubits; theoretical physics; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : In this thesis, we investigate many–body systems using simulations of quan- tum computers. Quantum computing is a computational paradigm based on qubits which are defined in a Hilbert space instead of the familiar binary bits. READ MORE

  4. 19. Comparison of RF Heating in ASDEX Upgrade and ITER

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för elektroteknik och datavetenskap (EECS)

    Author : Axel Blennå; Mark Kalldas; [2022]
    Keywords : Fusion; ASDEX Upgrade; ITER; FEMIC; ICRH; eigenmode; beam; wave absorption;

    Abstract : The increased effects of global warming have been a driving force to further research and develop sustainable energy sources, such as fusion. In this study, two different fusion devices are compared in terms of ion cyclotron resonance heating (ICRH)of plasma. The two devices are the tokamaks ASDEX Upgrade and not yet built ITER. READ MORE

  5. 20. Extended Kalman Filter as Observer for a Hydrofoiling Watercraft : Modelling of a new hydrofoiling concept, based on the Spherical Inverted Pendulum Model

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för elektroteknik och datavetenskap (EECS)

    Author : Adam Thålin; [2022]
    Keywords : Extended Kalman Filter; Hydrofoiling; Spherical Inverted Pendulum; Sensor Fusion; Simulink; Bärplan; Extended Kalman Filter; Farkostteknik; Inverterad Pendel; Sensorfusion; Sex frihetsgrader; Simulink;

    Abstract : Hydrofoiling in general has the potential to revolutionize watercraft in the future since it allows smoother and faster transport on water with less energy consumption than traditional planning hulls. Even if the concept of hydrofoiling has been around since the last century, development in control theory and material science together with increased computing power has led to a growing interest for the technology.
