  1. 1. Techno-Economic Analysis of Dye Separation in Textile Recycling

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära

    Author : David Lundberg; [2024]
    Keywords : Dye; Membrane filtration; Electrocoagulation; Techno-economic analysis; Pre-feasibility study; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : This study determines the technical and economic feasibility of separating dye from a process filtrate in industrial textile recycling using electrocoagulation or sequences of membrane filtration with microfiltration, ultrafiltration, nanofiltration and reverse osmosis. The lower requirements for treating this stream, compared to previously researched dyehouse effluents, left treatments not good enough for dyehouses viable for this process filtrate. READ MORE

  2. 2. Impact of Organic Solvent Treatments on Physical and Sensorial Properties of Knitted Fabrics.

    University essay from Högskolan i Borås/Akademin för textil, teknik och ekonomi

    Author : Sara Isabel Zamora Lagos; [2023]
    Keywords : Innovation; Screen-printing; Knitted fabric; Polyester; Cotton; Organic Solvents; Cycle; Properties; Physical; Structure; Sensorial.;

    Abstract : Technologies that facilitate reusing and recycling printed textile products will contribute to achieving a circular textile industry. This project was done in collaboration with Vividye, a company developing a technology to create removable textile prints to be able to extend the lifespan of screen-printed textile products without affecting their quality. 3. 3. Study on Decolorization of Reactive-dyed Cotton through Fenton-oxidation as a Pre-treatment for Textile Recycling

    University essay from Högskolan i Borås/Akademin för textil, teknik och ekonomi

    Author : Elise Meurs; [2023]
    Keywords : Fenton-oxidation; advanced oxidation processes; decolorization; textile recycling; cotton; reactive dye;

    Abstract : In this master thesis, the feasibility of Fenton-oxidation for the decolorization of reactive dyed cotton is investigated as a potentially environmental-friendly preparatory treatment for mechanical/chemical recycling. Raw, knitted cotton is dyed with a black and a blue dye, whereafter preliminary tests are performed to investigate the influence of increasing Fenton- solution concentrations and different iron-sources on the efficiency of the discoloration, without carrying out complete optimization of the process-parameters. 4. 4. Development and Optimization of Near-infrared spectroscopy

    University essay from Högskolan i Borås/Akademin för textil, teknik och ekonomi

    Author : Amanda Hahlin; [2023]
    Keywords : Near-infrared spectroscopy; NIRS; Textile sorting; Principal component analysis; PCA; Post-consumer end-of-life textiles;

    Abstract : With the growing demand for sustainable options, the existing sorting capacities are limiting the potential for fiber-to-fiber recycling. With the help of near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS), automated sorting of textiles with high accuracy is possible due to the easy access for polymer identification. READ MORE

  5. 5. Quantitative and qualitative analysis of dyes in pulp from recycled textiles

    University essay from KTH/Fiber- och polymerteknologi

    Author : Anna Bevin; [2023]
    Keywords : Textile fibers; Dyes; Kappa number; FTIR; UV-VIS; Textilfibrer; Färgämnen; Kappatal; FTIR; UV-VIS;

    Abstract : To decrease the environmental footprint, the textile industry needs to become more circular. One company that is trying to close the textile lifecycle loop is the Swedish company Renewcell. In the Renewcell process, discarded clothes and other textile waste are turned into a dissolving pulp that can be used for production of new textiles. READ MORE
