  1. 6. MANGO - Generating 2D-Magnetic Field Maps From Normal-Conducting Magnets Of Experimental Areas

    University essay from KTH/Fysik

    Author : Ambre Visive; [2023]
    Keywords : Applied Physics; Particle Physics; MANGO; Magnetic Field Maps; Normal-Conducting Magnets; Finite-Element Modelling; Opera-2D; Git Repository; Python Package; Beam Lines; Experimental Areas; CERN; Tillämpad Fysik; Partikelfysik; MANGO; Magnetfältskartor; Normalkonduktiva Elektromagneter; Finit Elementmodellering; Opera-2D; Git Repository; Python Package; Partikelstrållinje; Experimentområden; CERN;

    Abstract : This thesis discusses the development of MANGO, a tool created to model normal-conducting magnets which were installed in the 1970s in the experimental areas at CERN, and store their analysis. MANGO formulates an answer to two problems faced by the physicists of the Beam Department when they model a beam line: first, how to produce new magnetic field maps and, second, how to easily access existing ones? It contains a multi-use package that offers an automated process to produce magnetic field maps from finite-element models of magnets. READ MORE

  2. 7. Pulse Amplitude Reconstruction in the LDMX Hadronic Calorimeter Readout

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Partikel- och kärnfysik

    Author : Aksel Draguanov Mihaylov; [2023]
    Keywords : Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : The universe shows signs of containing some invisible matter, known as dark matter. There are many possible constituents for dark matter, one such being light dark matter which would interact with ordinary matter through a new mediator force and have masses in the range of a few MeV to GeV. 3. 8. Transverse Momentum Spectra in pp collisions (\sqrt{s}\) = 7 TeV and \(\sqrt{s}\) = 13 TeV in ALICE

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Partikel- och kärnfysik

    Author : Andreas Stokkeland; [2023]
    Keywords : Multiplicity; Multiplicity classes; Soft interactions; Quark Gluon Plasma; QGP; transverse momentum; p_T; Chi-squared; fits; fit functions; Levy; Lévy; Exponential; BGBW; Boltzmann-Gibbs blast-wave; Fermi-Dirac; Bose-Einstein; Boltzmann; pion; kaon; proton; transverse momentum spectra; p_T spectra; surface velocity; Minimum Bias; MB; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : In this project particle production as a function of transverse momentum (\(p_{\rm T}\)) in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy (\(\sqrt{s}\)) of 7 TeV and 13 TeV has been studied. The transverse momentum is interesting to study since it reflects momentum created in the collision (before the collision, all momentum is in the beam - going in a longitudinal direction) and therefore gives information on the collision dynamics. 4. 9. Developing an ML-based model for RF tuning of the DTL machine at ESS

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för reglerteknik

    Author : Amin Hosseini Nejad; [2023]
    Keywords : Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : The European Spallation Source (ESS) infrastructure is being constructed in Lund, and will be one of the most powerful research facilities of its type in the world. The ESS linear accelerator (linac) utilizes different accelerating sections where a wide variety of techniques should be employed to accelerate a beam of protons to 2 GeV kinetic energy through Radio Frequency (RF) cavities before being collided with a tungsten target for the final production of neutrons, through the process of spallation. 5. 10. Neutron backgrounds in neutrino-nucleus scattering at the European Spallation Source

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Partikel- och kärnfysik

    Author : José Guilherme Rodrigues de Albuquerque Vale; [2023]
    Keywords : Neutrino-nucleus scattering; background; PHITS; weight window; ESS; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : Being, when built, the most powerful neutron accelerator in the world, there will be a large number of potential discoveries at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund. One of the most exciting of these, from a particle physics point of view, is the Coherent Elastic Neutrino-Nucleus Scattering (CEνNS). READ MORE
