  1. 1. Gravitational Collapse of a Massless Scalar Field in a Theory of Minimally Modified Gravity

    University essay from KTH/Fysik

    Author : Atabak Fathe Jalali; [2024]
    Keywords : Theoretical physics; astrophysics; modified gravity; minimally modified gravity; gravitational collapse; VCDM; scalar collapse; apparent horizon; numerical relativity; Teoretisk fysik; astrofysik; modifierad gravitation; minimalt modifierad gravitation; gravitationskollaps; VCDM; skalär kollaps; uppenbar horisont; numerisk relativitet;

    Abstract : This thesis explores the spherically symmetric gravitational collapse of a massless scalar field in a minimally modified gravity theory denoted VCDM (V replaces $\Lambda$ in the $\Lambda$CDM abbreviation), a class of theories propagating the same degrees of freedom as general relativity at the expense of broken 4D diffeomorphism invariance. Numerical evolution of the equations of motion reveals that for small initial scalar profile amplitudes, no black hole forms from the collapse. READ MORE

  2. 2. Violence Against the Elite : A Comparative Analysis of two Terminal Classic Mass Graves in Cancuén

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för arkeologi och antik historia

    Author : Nayelli Wallbing Kenney; [2023]
    Keywords : Mass graves; violence against elite; collapse; power; socio-politics; socio-economy; osteological analysis; Cancuén; Massgravar; våld mot elit; kollaps; makt; socialpolitik; socioekonomi; osteologisk analys; Cancuén;

    Abstract : In this essay a comparative analysis will be conducted on two mass graves from the terminal classics in the Maya lowlands. This will be done by analysing interpretations of the Cancuén site in Guatemala. Cancuén was a major trading port city in the terminal classics’ southern lowlands. It flourished until its decline in the late 700’s CE. READ MORE

  3. 3. Representing video game style with procedurally generated content : How wave function collapse can be used to represent style in video games

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för elektroteknik och datavetenskap (EECS)

    Author : Filip Hedman; Martin Håkansson; [2023]
    Keywords : Procedural content generation; Procedural generation; Wave function collapse; Video games; Platform game; Expressive range; Generering av procedurinnehåll; Processuell generering; Vågfunktion kollaps; Videospel; Plattformsspel; Uttrycks räckvidd;

    Abstract : As the video gaming industry continues to grow, developers face increasing pressure to produce innovative content swiftly and cost-effectively. Procedural Content Generation (PCG), the use of algorithms to automate content creation, offers a solution to this problem. READ MORE

  4. 4. Dynamic response of damped attachments in fighter applications

    University essay from KTH/Lättkonstruktioner, marina system, flyg- och rymdteknik, rörelsemekanik

    Author : Katja Nordström; [2023]
    Keywords : Vibration isolator; printed circuit board; vibrations; natural frequency; Vibrationsisolator; kretskort; vibrationer; resonansfrekvenser;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates the impact of vibration isolators on circuit boards during harsh vibrationenvironments that occur when they are mounted on the wings of a fighter jet. To examine thisphenomenon, a mathematical model and a simulated model were developed to determine theresonant frequencies of the circuit board under various boundary conditions. READ MORE

  5. 5. Compounding the Problem? : Gated Communities in Climate and Environmental Disaster Fiction

    Abstract : The gated community motif occurs frequently within climate and environmental disaster fiction. This thesis investigates its occurrence across three media to establish how the gated community mode of living, as rendered in post-apocalyptic speculative fiction, responds to the threat and consequences of climate and environmental crisis.
