  1. 1. Micro-CT based finite element models for mechanical strength assessment of glass ceramic scaffolds obtained through the robocasting technique

    University essay from KTH/Hållfasthetslära

    Author : Gustav Thessén; [2022]
    Keywords : µ-CT modelling; phase-field method; bio-glass scaffolds; strength assessment; Mikrotomografi; μ-CT; fasfältsmetoden; bio-glas stödstrukturer; brottgräns;

    Abstract : In this thesis, micro computed tomography (μ−CT) scans of a bio-glass scaffold produced by the robocasting technique was used to create finite element method (FEM) models with the purpose of determining its mechanical strength. Prior to this, a Matlab script was used to create several simplified geometries of the scaffold in an effort to determine the importance of scaffold design parameters (such as the fiber compenetration between two adjacent printing planes) on the strength of the scaffold. 2. 2. Synchrotron X-ray Tomography Study of Bone-implant Integration

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för Biomedicinsk teknik

    Author : Ornella Lohéac; [2021]
    Keywords : Bone-implant; Digital volume correlation; Micro-computed tomography; PEEK; Synchrotron; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : Implant loosening is a recurring problem in the field of orthopedics, typically resulting in a physical and financial burden for the patient. Proper integration of orthopedic implants within host bones is a fundamental requirement for the successful function and limited risk of failure of implants which, in-vivo, must support various loading conditions. 3. 3. An Investigation of the breakage process of particles : With help of experimental results and discrete element methods

    University essay from Luleå tekniska universitet/Institutionen för samhällsbyggnad och naturresurser

    Author : Ronni Bashiry; [2021]
    Keywords : Geotechnical Engineering; Breakage; Fracture; Spherical particles; DEM; Modelling; Numerical modelling;

    Abstract : In this study the breakage mechanics of brittle glass marbles was investigated. The pro-cess was to firstly investigate them in laboratory environment. The marbles or specimens was loaded until a crushing breakage occurred in a single point load test called Single Sphere Point load test in this document. READ MORE

  4. 4. Simulation of Delamination Migration in Laminated Composite Structures - An Approach Combining Extended Finite Elements and a Cohesive Zone Model

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Hållfasthetslära

    Author : Viktor Björklund; [2018]
    Keywords : Crack propagation modeling; Fiber-reinforced polymer; Laminated composites; FRP; CFRP; Cohesive zone model; CZM; Delamination migration; FEM; XFEM; Fracture mechanics; Progressive damage modeling; Surface-based cohesive behaviour; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : Fiber-reinforced polymer matrix composites are being used increasingly in lightweight applications where high strength and stiffness is required. One of the main challenges with designing components from such materials is to predict the ultimate strength and behaviour of the structure. READ MORE

  5. 5. Fracture prediction of stretched shear cut edges in sheets made of Dual-Phase steel

    University essay from Blekinge Tekniska Högskola/Institutionen för maskinteknik

    Author : Johannes Falk; [2017]
    Keywords : Strain; DP steel; Dual-phase steel; Autoform; Aramis; Fracture strain; Advanced High Strength Steels; AHSS; Fracture prediction;

    Abstract : Dual-Phase (DP) steels, part of the group of Advanced High Strength Steels (AHSS), are used by car manufactures due to its large strength to weight ratio. The high strength of the DP steel does have a negative impact on the formability during sheet metal forming and stretch forming, e.g. READ MORE
