  1. 11. Test setup for LDMX HCal readout

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Partikel- och kärnfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Joshua Greaves; [2020]
    Keywords : Dark matter; LDMX; dark photon; hadronic calorimeter; photomultiplier tube; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : It is evident from cosmological observations such as the Cosmic Microwave Background, and the motion of galaxies, that the universe consists of approximately 5 times more mass than visible matter can account for. The Light Dark Matter eXperiment (LDMX) will take a unique approach in its hunt for dark matter; it will look for missing momentum signals in electron collisions with a Tungsten target, and will be looking in the sub GeV energy range for evidence of dark matter interactions. 2. 12. Extended walking in room-scale VR via a subtle situation-based rotation of the virtual environment while maintaining a full sense of presence

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för elektroteknik och datavetenskap (EECS)

    Author : Johannes Karlsson; [2020]
    Keywords : Virtual reality; locomotion technique; redirecting;

    Abstract : Assuming that the emergence of inside-out positional tracking in commercially available VR systems indicate a future where room-scale VR is experienced more freely, there is a demand for adaptable and immersive VR locomotion techniques that while enabling real walking overcomes the physical restrictions of a play space without the use of additional hardware. Hence, the purpose of this study was to explore the hypothesis that a subtle situation-based rotation of the immersive virtual environment (IVE) around the user can free up physically restricted virtual space and enable extended real walking in room-scale VR, while a full sense of presence is maintained. 3. 13. A remote-sensing approach to studying drought resistance in Swedish old-growth and production forests

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Author : Julika Wolf; [2020]
    Keywords : Physical Geography and Ecosystem Analysis; drought impacts; old-growth forests; forest management; remote sensing; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : Boreal forest ecosystems are predicted to experience hotter and drier summers due to climate change, leading to more frequently reduced soil water availability and an increased risk of droughts, as was already the case in Northern Europe during the severe summer drought of 2018. Prolonged water stress in forest ecosystems can lead to impacts ranging from reduced photosynthesis to forest dieback. READ MORE

  4. 14. Modeling, Simulation and Correlation of Drag losses in a Power Transfer Unit of an All- Wheel Drive System

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för industriell teknik och management (ITM)

    Author : Balaji Srinivasan Venkatesan; [2020]
    Keywords : 1-D simulation; System simulation; ROMAX Energy; LMS AMESim; Power loss; Hypoid gear; Power Transfer Unit; Efficiency and Drag Loss Tests; 1-D simulering; systemsimulering; ROMAX Energy; LMS AMESim; effektförlust; hypoidväxel; kraftöverföringsenhet; effektivitet och dragförlusttester;

    Abstract : A Power Transfer Unit (PTU) of an All-Wheel Drive System is a hypoid gear transmission unit that distributes the power from the vehicle transmission to all wheels of the vehicle. This thesis aims at increasing the fidelity of the analytical power loss calculation methods through test data correlation and develop a 1D simulation model that can be used to evaluate the drag losses in the PTU at early design stages. 5. 15. Do Clay Minerals affect the thickener operationin Chuquicamata mine, Calama, Chile?

    University essay from Luleå tekniska universitet/Institutionen för samhällsbyggnad och naturresurser

    Author : Chris Soto; [2020]
    Keywords : Mine; clay minerals; mineral processing;

    Abstract : Chuquicamata mine mineralogy has been studied performing both X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and X-RayFluorescence (XRF) to determine whether there is any influence in the thickener operations. Thetargeted minerals were the clay group because of their detrimental effect on mining operations asmodify the rheology of the suspensions. READ MORE
