  1. 11. Groundwater modeling of Krycklan catchment and evaluation of the groundwater discharge distribution

    University essay from KTH/Hållbar utveckling, miljövetenskap och teknik

    Author : Sandra Edström; [2022]
    Keywords : groundwater modelling; groundwater flow; Krycklan catchment; topography-controlled groundwater surface; evapotranspiration; groundwater discharge; groundwater recharge; grundvattenmodellering; grundvattenflöde; Krycklan avrinningsområde; topografi-kontrollerad grundvattenyta; evapotranspiration; grundvattenutflöde; grundvatteninfiltration;

    Abstract : This thesis aimed to evaluate the groundwater discharge distribution in the Krycklan catchment by developing a groundwater flow model using COMSOL Multiphysics and assuming a topography- controlled groundwater surface. Previous research has shown that the groundwater surface can be modeled as a subdued replica of the topography in humid climate regions where the permeability of the subsurface is low and where the groundwater surface is shallow. 2. 12. Petrography and Thermodynamic Modelling of Svecofennian Arsenic-bearing Metasupracrustal Rocks in the Arlanda Area, West-Central Fennoscandian Shield

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Author : Klara Skoog; [2022]
    Keywords : Bergslagen; Svecokarelian orogeny; metamorphism; arsenic; optical microscopy; electron microprobe; thermodynamic modelling; Bergslagen; Svecokarelska orogenesen; metamorfos; arsenik; optisk mikroskopering; elektron mikrosond; termodynamisk modellering;

    Abstract : The Arlanda area is a construction intensive area facing problems with risk of leaching of arsenic (As) from the bedrock to surface- and groundwater. Construction projects in the area have had problems with high levels of As in the bedrock and the risk of leaching increases through processing of aggregates and blasting of the bedrock. READ MORE

  3. 13. Groundwater Inflow into Fractured Rock Tunnels

    University essay from KTH/Hållbar utveckling, miljövetenskap och teknik

    Author : Mariam Beydoun; [2022]
    Keywords : groundwater inflow; rock tunnel; discrete fracture networks; discrete fracture-matrix; equivalent porous medium; Darcy’s Law; Reynold’s equation; cubic law; grundvatteninflöde; bergtunnel; discrete fracture networks; discrete fracture-matrix; equivalent porous medium; Darcy’s Law; Reynolds equation; cubic law;

    Abstract : Groundwater inflow is a challenge in construction of tunnels in fractured bedrocks since it affects the safety function of tunnels and leads to potential problems in the surrounding environment, such as subsidence, dropdown of the groundwater table. Quantification of groundwater inflow into the tunnel is also important for design of grouting in the construction of the tunnel. READ MORE

  4. 14. Urban Flooding in Ljungby Municipality and the Effectiveness of Blue-green Mitigation Measures Using the Software SCALGO Live

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära

    Author : Bayan Taleb; [2021]
    Keywords : Blue-green solutions; climate change; hydraulic modelling; urban flooding.; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : En av konsekvenserna av klimatförändringen är en ökning av extrema regn. Kraftigt regn har blivit vanligare de senaste åren, troligen kommer nederbörden fortsätta att öka under kommande åren, säger forskarna. Den 10 augusti 2020, föll ett kraftigt regn i Ljungby stad som orsakade många översvämningar i privata och publika områden. READ MORE

  5. 15. Design and Optimisation of an Aquifer Storage and Recovery System - Options for long term storage under natural hydraulic gradients

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Teknisk geologi

    Author : Simon Kreipl; [2021]
    Keywords : Aquifer storage and recovery; well-field design; groundwater modelling; numerical modelling; FEFLOW; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : Aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) is a concept where water is stored in an aquifer during times when it is available, thus creating artificial groundwater, which can later be recovered by pumping when it is needed (Pyne, 1995). One ASR cycle consists of a injection, a standby and a recovery phase. READ MORE
