21. Analysis of polyfunctional thiols in beer : Developing a novel method of extraction and analysis using GC-FID
University essay from Lunds universitet/Livsmedelsteknik och nutrition (master)Abstract : In this project, attempts were made to identify and quantify two polyfunctional thiols – 4-mercapto-4-methyl-pentanone and 3-mercaptohexyl acetate – and three monoterpene alcohols – linalool, geraniol, and β-citronellol – in beer samples. In order to avoid the use of hazardous compounds such as dichloromethane and hydroxymercuriobenzoate, common in traditional methods, two novel techniques were tested: a pure liquid-liquid extraction of the beer samples with cyclohexane, and a liquid-liquid extraction with cyclohexane followed by solid phase extraction on silver ion columns. 24. Reducing Polarization in Opinion Networks in the Presence of Stubborn Leaders
University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för reglerteknikAbstract : We study the problem of reducing polarization (variance) of opinions at stationarity in a directed weighted graph with node set divided into two groups: stubborn, initialized with a fixed opinion and regular who repeatedly update their opinion to the average of their out-neighbors, known as the DeGroot model with stubborn nodes. We show how the polarization can be minimized for a number of simple constraints, but that the problem in general is not convex. READ MORE

25. Selection of a product component for topology optimization and additive manufacturing
University essay from Jönköping University/JTH, Industriell produktutveckling, produktion och designAbstract : This is a master thesis research on how to select the right components in a product, considering reducing the weight with topology optimization (TO) and adaption for additive manufacturing (AM). It is well established that manufacturing of complex structures can be achieved with AM, the possibility of integrating assembled components and improve features will therefore be investigated.
