  1. 21. PARTON SHOWER UNCERTAINTIES ON THE TOP MASS

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation

    Author : Hristina Georgieva Hristova; [2019]
    Keywords : top quark mass; uncertainty; Lund Monte Carlo; Pythia; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : The non-Abelian QCD nature allows for pp collisions to contain gluon emissions off quarks as well as gluon branchings into further gluons — a structure that can be described by the parton shower model. In this project we present the results of the impact the shower has on the reconstruction of the W-boson and top quark masses using Pythia, the Lund Monte Carlo event generator. READ MORE

  2. 22. Exotic Decays of a Vector-liketop Partner at the LHC

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Högenergifysik

    Author : Alexander Skwarcan-Bidakowski; [2019]
    Keywords : Particle physics; Vector-like quarks; VLQ; Composite Higgs model; CHM; Top-partner; pseudo; Nambu-Goldstone boson; pNGB; NGB; ATLAS; LHC; CMS; Significance; Recast; CheckMate; CM; MadGraph; Pythia; Delphes; Detector; Analysis; Hierarchy Problem; Exotic; Decay; QFT; Quantum Field Theory; fermions; bosons; Jets; photons; leptons; 13 TeV; Missing Transverse Energy; momentum; hypothetical; selection criteria; Standard model; Signal; background; event; Higgs; Mechanism; Simulation; Confidence limit;

    Abstract : An evaluation of how sensitive some ATLAS searches for new physics are to a new beyond standard model (BSM) vector-like quark (VLQ) and a pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson (pNGB) scalar. This was done by simulating a signal containing these new particles and making a recast of it onto existing verified ATLAS searches for new physics at center-of-mass (CM) energy of 13 TeV (Run 2) at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). 3. 23. Performance of jet subtraction in pPb and PbPb collisions, without collectivity

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation; Lunds universitet/Institutionen för astronomi och teoretisk fysik - Genomgår omorganisation

    Author : Sebastian Grabowski; [2018]
    Keywords : heavy ion: scattering; Angantyr; underlying event; subtraction; jet: quenching; non-collectivity; stacking; jet: correlation; non-colliective; background; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : We investigated the performance of basic jet subtraction, by the utilization of jet reconstruction generally used at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). This was done by studying Z-bosons, in the dielectron decay channel, and the associated jet correlation in pp, pPb and PbPb collisions, using datasets generated by the Monte Carlo generator PYTHIA8. 4. 24. The space--time structure of hadron production in high-energy collisions

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för astronomi och teoretisk fysik - Genomgår omorganisation; Lunds universitet/Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation

    Author : Silvia Ferreres; [2018]
    Keywords : event generator; space--time implementation; hadron production; hadron density; space--time; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : In this thesis, the space--time picture of the hadronization model has been implemented in the event generator Pythia. From this implementation, the hadronic behaviour has been studied for different scenarios, in order to begin addressing the unexpected collective behaviour of high-multiplicity pp events, which is typical for heavy-ion collisions. 5. 25. Study of Particle Production Mechanisms in PYTHIA 8 using Angular Correlations

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation; Lunds universitet/Institutionen för astronomi och teoretisk fysik - Genomgår omorganisation

    Author : Joakim Alnefjord; [2017]
    Keywords : pythia; alice; particle; production; mechanisms; angular; correlations; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : An analysis of two-particle angular correlations was recently performed on measurements taken from pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV by ALICE at the LHC. The correlations for mesons are in good agreement with simulations performed in Monte Carlo event generators such as PYTHIA and PHOJET, but there is a significant difference for baryons. READ MORE
