  1. 21. Fibre volume fractions’ and printing directions’ effects on tribological and mechanical properties in FDM printed carbon fibre reinforced PEEK : Suitability assessment of FDM printed PEEK-CF to act in a steam engine’s ball joint, by analysis of compressive properties, impact strength, friction and wear

    University essay from Karlstads universitet/Institutionen för ingenjörsvetenskap och fysik (from 2013)

    Author : William Tönnberg; [2022]
    Keywords : Ranotor; steam engine; PEEK; polyether-ether-ketone; carbon fibre reinforced PEEK; impact strength; compressive strength; compressive modulus; friction; wear; tribology; FFF; FDM; 3D-printing; printing parameters;

    Abstract : The purpose with this study was to investigate FDM/FFF manufactured carbon fibre reinforced PEEK and assess its suitability to act as a sealing- and bearing material in a modern steam engine’s ball joint. The steam engine is totally free from oil due to the risk of water- and steam contamination. READ MORE

  2. 22. Use of Digital Image Correlation for monitoring of concrete buttress dam failure model tests

    University essay from KTH/Betongbyggnad

    Author : Jarl Jensen; Markus Leijström; [2022]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The monitoring of dam structures is of great importance for the safety of the dam.A dam failure can cause disastrous consequences for people and infrastructure downstream.Dams are monitored by periodic inspections and monitoring systems. READ MORE

  3. 23. Micro-CT based finite element models for mechanical strength assessment of glass ceramic scaffolds obtained through the robocasting technique

    University essay from KTH/Hållfasthetslära

    Author : Gustav Thessén; [2022]
    Keywords : µ-CT modelling; phase-field method; bio-glass scaffolds; strength assessment; Mikrotomografi; μ-CT; fasfältsmetoden; bio-glas stödstrukturer; brottgräns;

    Abstract : In this thesis, micro computed tomography (μ−CT) scans of a bio-glass scaffold produced by the robocasting technique was used to create finite element method (FEM) models with the purpose of determining its mechanical strength. Prior to this, a Matlab script was used to create several simplified geometries of the scaffold in an effort to determine the importance of scaffold design parameters (such as the fiber compenetration between two adjacent printing planes) on the strength of the scaffold. 4. 24. U - Net Based Crack Detection in Road and Railroad Tunnels Using Data Acquired by Mobile Device

    University essay from KTH/Geoinformatik

    Author : Kepan Gao; [2022]
    Keywords : U-Net; deep learning; tunnel monitoring; structural health monitoring; crack detection; mobile mapping system;

    Abstract : Infrastructures like bridges and tunnels are significant for the economy and growth of countries, however, the risk of failure increases as they getting aged. Therefore, a systematic monitoring scheme is necessary to check the integrity regularly. READ MORE

  5. 25. Crack propagation in 3D-printed PLA

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Tillämpad materialvetenskap

    Author : Johan Stenborg; Amaro Ramirez Flores; [2022]
    Keywords : Crack; 3D printing; crack propagation; FEM; fracture; crack simulation; image correlation; Sprickor; Sprickbildning; 3D printing; spricksimulering; DIC-analys;

    Abstract : Cracks form in all materials. This project was about investigating the crackpropagation in 3D-printed PLA. Both simulations and experiments has beenperformed to get the results. The simulations used a already written code to solvethe problem with FEM. READ MORE
