  1. 21. Cosmological probes of the early universe with Axions & Gravitational Waves

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Teoretisk fysik

    Author : Nicklas Ramberg; [2019]
    Keywords : axions; early universe; dark matter; gravitational waves; modified cosmology; cosmic strings; axion; tidigt universum; mörk materia; gravitationsvågor; modifierad kosmologi; kosmiska strängar;

    Abstract : This thesis uses theoretical studies, and numerical simulations to provide results of the experimental reach to detect the QCD axion as dark matter in a Non-standard cosmological background. Assuming that the QCD axion constitutes the full CDM abundance of the universe, this thesis elaborates on its potential detection from experimental setups for the mass window of the axion. READ MORE

  2. 22. Vorticity and Gravitational Wave Perturbations on Cosmological Backgrounds Using the 1+1+2 Covariant Split of Spacetime

    University essay from Umeå universitet/Institutionen för fysik

    Author : Robin Törnkvist; [2018]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In this thesis we consider perturbations of a perfect fluid on locally rotationally symmetrical (LRS) class II cosmological backgrounds, with a nonvanishing vorticity of the fluid on the perturbed model. The method used is based on the 1+1+2 covariant decomposition of spacetime, motivated by the assumption of anisotropic expansion, followed by a harmonic decomposition of all gauge invariant quantities. 3. 23. Derivation and stability determination of black hole metrics

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation; Lunds universitet/Institutionen för astronomi och teoretisk fysik - Genomgår omorganisation

    Author : Emma Svensson; [2018]
    Keywords : black holes; relativity; general relativity; kerr metric; schwarzschild metric; derivation; stability; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : The Schwarzschild metric and the Kerr metric describe the gravitational fields around static and rotating black holes, respectively. Here, we derive the Kerr metric in a simpler way than how it was derived originally and determine the stability of the Schwarzschild metric. READ MORE

  4. 24. Gravitational Waves in General Relativity

    University essay from Umeå universitet/Institutionen för fysik

    Author : Aaron Bello Arufe; [2017]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In this paper, we write a summary about general relativity and, in particular,gravitational waves. We start by discussing the mathematics that generalrelativity uses, as well as the geometry in general relativity's spacetime. Afterwards,we explain linearized general relativity and derive the linearizedversions of Einstein's equations. READ MORE

  5. 25. Theoretical Foundations and Experimental Detection of Gravitational Radiation

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för teknikvetenskap (SCI)

    Author : Axel Philip; [2017]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Gravitational waves emerge as a prediction of Einstein’s theory of general relativity. On account of the recent detection, by the LIGO scientific collaboration, this thesis offers a brief review of the fundamentals of gravitational wave theory, and of the challenges involved in direct experimental detection.
