  1. 1. Probing Strangeness Production in Proton-Proton Collisions with Three-Particle Correlations

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Partikel- och kärnfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Melinda Petricean; [2023]
    Keywords : Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : Strangeness production in small systems such as proton-proton collisions is here investigated through the use of three-particle correlations in the momentum-space coordinates η and ϕ. This method is used in order to investigate possible correlation between conservation of both strangeness and baryon number, such that the particles chosen are Λ¯pK+ and the respective charge conjugates, where Λ is a strange baryon, p¯ balances: the Balance Function and the comparative restriction of relative positions for pairs of particles within given triplets. 2. 2. Forward-Backward Multiplicity Correlations for Proton-Proton Collisions with ALICE at LHC-CERN

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Partikel- och kärnfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : August Koppers; [2022]
    Keywords : ALICE; Particle physics; CERN; LHC; QCD; pp collisions; Lund string model; Two particle correlation; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : This thesis presents the study of two-particle pseudorapidity correlations in pp-collisions at √s = 13 TeV using the ALICE detector at LHC, CERN. The correlation function was calculated as a function of multiplicity and was repeated for several multiplicity classes and different charge combinations in the forward-backward and central regions of the detector, respectively. 3. 3. Geometry studies of high energy 16O collisions

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation

    Author : Aliaksei Kuzmenka; [2022]
    Keywords : Ion Collisions; Oxygen; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : In this project a model of oxygen, 16O, nuclei, where the nucleons are organised in α-clusters, was implemented in the Pythia Monte Carlo event generator. To study the effects of the new model, some observables, such as the distribution of the number of the wounded nucleons, charged particle multiplicity in the forward and central pseudorapidity region, and the pseudorapidity distribution for different centrality bins and eccentricity, are compared to the model originally implemented in Pythia (Woods-Saxon). 4. 4. Event Geometry and Anisotropic Flow in Proton-Proton Collisions

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation

    Author : Johannes Holst; [2021]
    Keywords : high energy physics; particle physics; proton; collision; quark-gluon plasma; flow; anisotropy; anisotropic flow; elliptic flow; initial state; geometry; eccentricity; gaussian; cms; alice; lhc; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : We seek to better understand the relationship between an anisotropic distribution of partons in the initial state of pp-collisions and the amount of elliptic flow. We do this through the implementation of a new model that is based in generating positions for multiparton interactions from the uneven volume created by the overlap of two Gaussians. READ MORE

  5. 5. Principal Component Analyses of Final States in Relativistic Nuclear Collisions using PYTHIA/Angantyr

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation

    Author : Nicoline Krogh Hemme; [2020]
    Keywords : Relativistic Nuclear Collisions; Heavy-ion Collisions; Pythia; Angantyr; String Shoving; Colour Reconnection; Principal Component Analysis; Anisotropic Flow; Elliptic Flow; Event-by-event Fluctuations; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : We develop a program to perform a principal component analysis of flow fluctuations using simulations of nuclear collisions produced by the PYTHIA/Angantyr event generator. We consider both p+p and p+Pb collision events and study the leading and subleading modes of the second flow harmonic. READ MORE
