  1. 6. A virtual reality experiment on driving speed in smoke during a wildfire evacuation

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för Brandteknik

    Author : Niklas Wetterberg; [2020]
    Keywords : VR; Driving; Speed Choice; Wildfire; WUI; Virtual Reality; Smoke; Evacuation; Reduced Visibility; Driving Simulation; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates how individual driving behaviour during an evacuation is affected by the presence of smoke on the evacuation route. The thesis aims are to determine a correlation between the choice of speed and the density of the smoke, determine if there is a difference in choice of speed in relation to the previously driven road segment (in thicker or thinner smoke), and determine if the road positioning (specifically the lateral position in the cross section) is dependent on the smoke density. 2. 7. Simulating Panic In Crowds During Evacuations

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för elektroteknik och datavetenskap (EECS)

    Author : Hannes Runelöv; Lisa Håkansson; [2019]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The layout of a room plays an important role in how effectively it can be evacuated. In particular, the locations and number of exits in a room affect how effective an evacuation is. What also affects the effectiveness of evacuations is panic behaviour and injuries. READ MORE

  3. 8. Evacuation behaviour intentions based on the summer 2018 Swedish forest fire season

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för Brandteknik

    Author : Johanna Hahlin; [2019]
    Keywords : Behaviour; Bushfire; Evacuation; Evacuation behaviour; Fires in Sweden 2018; Forest fire; Forest fire evacuation; Questionnaire; Survey; Wildfire; Wildfire evacuation; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : A large number of forest fires occurred in Sweden during the summer 2018 on a total area of 21 000 hectares. Between 300 and 500 residents were evacuated from their home due to these fires. This situation was unfamiliar in Sweden at the time, and the routines for dealing with such crisis were challenged. 4. 9. Testing the International Standards Organization Verification and Validation protocol for evacuation simulations-An application to the FDS+Evac model

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för Brandteknik

    Author : Yalong Wu; [2019]
    Keywords : Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : Nowadays, many evacuation models exist in the market, and new models are continuously released with new features. How to assess the usability and reliability of model results becomes an issue for both developers and users. Therefore, verification and validation (V&V) protocols were introduced in the assessment process of evacuation models. READ MORE

  5. 10. The Analysis of Results of Stochastic Evacuation Models

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för Brandteknik

    Author : Erik Smedberg; [2019]
    Keywords : Evacuation; Fire safety; Behavioural uncertainty; Evacuation modelling; Evacuation simulation; Pathfinder; Functional analysis; Egress.; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : All humans are unique, we have different characteristics and we make different decision. This is a challenge when it comes to modelling human behaviour. The models we design are based on mathematics where there is no room for inconsistencies such that are present in human behaviour. READ MORE
