  1. 11. Constructing supported lipid bilayers from native cell membranes

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Biofysikalisk kemi

    Author : Tommy Dam; [2018]
    Keywords : T cells; Model membrane systems; Supported lipid bilayers; SLB; biophysical chemistry; biofysikalisk kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : The aim of this MSc-project was to investigate whether it is possible to incorporate native cell membrane components from Jurkat T cells into supported lipid bilayers, SLBs, to produce a model membrane system better resembling the native cell membranes in T cells. The procedure of forming native-like SLBs (nSLB) was adapted from an existing protocol and is done through the deposition of hybrid vesicles onto a cleaned glass slide. READ MORE

  2. 12. Molecular Dynamics Simulations of Axonal Membrane in Traumatic Brain Injury

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för teknik och hälsa (STH)

    Author : Zohreh Alaei; [2017]
    Keywords : Traumatic brain injury; diffuse axonal injury; molecular simulation; axonal bilayer; strain; shear force; nano-scale deformation; lipid bilayer;

    Abstract : The following project presents in silico investigation of axonal damage in Diffuse Axonal Injury (DAI). When axons face a shear force, orientation of the lipids in the axonal membrane gets disrupted. READ MORE

  3. 13. Felin hemotropisk mykoplasmos

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Biomedical Sciences and Veterinary Public Health

    Author : Emma Norrestam; [2016]
    Keywords : katt; hemotropiska mykoplasmer; felin hemotropisk mykoplasmos; Mycoplasma; feline; hemotropic mycoplasmas; feline hemotropic mycoplasmosis;

    Abstract : Felin hemotropisk mykoplasmos är en bakteriell sjukdom vilken kan orsakas av tre olika felina hemotropiska mykoplasmer: Mycoplasma haemofelis, Candidatus Mycoplasma haemominutum och Candidatus Mycoplasma turicensis. Syftet med denna litteraturstudie är att belysa etiologin, patogenesen och prevalensen för felin hemotropisk mykoplasmos. READ MORE

  4. 14. The role of omega-3 fatty acids in the treatment of schizophrenia through modification of membrane phospholipids

    University essay from Linnéuniversitetet/Institutionen för kemi och biomedicin (KOB)

    Author : Martha Areda; [2016]
    Keywords : Schizophrenia; omega-3; membrane lipids; PUFA; polyunsaturated fatty acids; EPA; DHA; Eicosapentaenoic Acid; Docosahexaenoic Acid; typical antipsychotics; atypical antipsychotics;

    Abstract : Ever since the emergence of the hypothesis that linked the aetiology of schizophrenia with abnormal membrane phospholipids composition, an increasing number of evidences have suggested reduced membrane polyunsaturated fatty acids in patients with schizophrenia. This has led to a conduct of several studies to evaluate the efficacy of omega-3 fatty acid supplement in the modification of membrane phospholipids and treatment of schizophrenia. READ MORE

  5. 15. Lipid Bilayers on Planes and in Micropipettes - Two model systems to study binding of DivIVA to flat and negatively curved membranes

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Fysikalisk kemi; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Elisabeth Baumann; [2016]
    Keywords : supported lipid bilayer; DivIVA; curvature; TIRF; FRAP; epifluorescence microscopy; micropipette; model system; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis work was to form and characterize model systems of cell membranes on planar supports and in micropipettes. Firstly, supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) were formed on glass slides after an existing experimental procedure. READ MORE
