  1. 11. Signal background interference effects in lepton trident events with a new low mass mediator

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation

    Author : Patricia Andrea Gutiérrez García; [2020]
    Keywords : dark matter; pythia; matrix element corrections; LDM; Dire; Madgraph; dark photons; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : In this project we present a phenomenological study of signal to background interference effects in leptonic tridents produced in parton showers. The interference effects are introduced by linking matrix element corrections of a kinetically mixed dark photon model to the parton shower Dire. READ MORE

  2. 12. Exotic Decays of a Vector-liketop Partner at the LHC

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Högenergifysik

    Author : Alexander Skwarcan-Bidakowski; [2019]
    Keywords : Particle physics; Vector-like quarks; VLQ; Composite Higgs model; CHM; Top-partner; pseudo; Nambu-Goldstone boson; pNGB; NGB; ATLAS; LHC; CMS; Significance; Recast; CheckMate; CM; MadGraph; Pythia; Delphes; Detector; Analysis; Hierarchy Problem; Exotic; Decay; QFT; Quantum Field Theory; fermions; bosons; Jets; photons; leptons; 13 TeV; Missing Transverse Energy; momentum; hypothetical; selection criteria; Standard model; Signal; background; event; Higgs; Mechanism; Simulation; Confidence limit;

    Abstract : An evaluation of how sensitive some ATLAS searches for new physics are to a new beyond standard model (BSM) vector-like quark (VLQ) and a pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson (pNGB) scalar. This was done by simulating a signal containing these new particles and making a recast of it onto existing verified ATLAS searches for new physics at center-of-mass (CM) energy of 13 TeV (Run 2) at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). 3. 13. Development, Testing and Future Outlook of a Penalized Spline as a Representation of the Standard Model Background in Dijet Searches

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Partikel- och kärnfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Alexander Ekman; [2017]
    Keywords : spline; p-spline; SPLINTER; b-spline; penalized spline; standard model; standard model background; SM; SMB; dijet; ATLAS; dark matter; MadGraph; python; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to develop, test and evaluate a penalized basis spline as a method for representing the Standard Model background in dijet searches from proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider. Current representations of the Standard Model background are complex and dependent on current assumptions of the Standard Model. READ MORE

  4. 14. Summarising Constraints On Dark Matter At The Large Hadron Collider

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Partikel- och kärnfysik

    Author : Isabelle John; [2017]
    Keywords : Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : Dark matter is estimated to make up around 25% of the Universe, but it is not known what dark matter is. In particle physics, mediators of dark matter are used to model interactions of dark matter particles with known particles (Standard Model particles). READ MORE

  5. 15. Left-Right Symmetric Model : Putting lower bounds on the mass of the heavy, charged WR gauge boson

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Högenergifysik

    Author : Melissa Harris; [2017]
    Keywords : BSM; SM; LRSM;

    Abstract : In this project I have studied the left-right symmetric model (LRSM) as a candidate beyond standard model theory of particle physics. The most common version of the theory, called the minimal LRSM, has been studied and tested extensively for several decades. READ MORE
